Linda Caicedo dazzles with her soccer and goals in the South American in Montevideo

Under the guidance of Linda Caicedo, the Colombian U-17 women’s team is close to obtaining one of the three places given by the South American in Montevideo for the World Cup in India, which will be played from October 11 to 30.

The 17-year-old soccer player is the top scorer for the tricolor team in this tournament, with four goals, and one of the most influential players among those led by Carlos Paniagua from Antioquia.

“Linda has always been an outstanding soccer player and thanks to her speed and skill with the ball she manages to be strong in one-on-one,” said Paisa coach Álvaro Restrepo, who has known Caicedo since his beginnings in the Valle National Team.

At just 14 years old, Caicedo debuted as a professional in 2019 in the Women’s League, in which she managed to be the top scorer in the championship and champion with América de Cali, after defeating Independiente Medellín in the final.

The first impression of the strategist of the Atlas CP team, from Valle del Cauca, Jhon Álex Echeverry, when he saw Linda play was the difference she made when driving the ball and, in addition, the ability she had to change pace.

The joy of the title and the trophy as a scorer with America in the League did not last long for the attacker, since she could not participate in the Copa Libertadores because the regulations only allowed those soccer players over 16 years of age to act and at that time she had just turned 15 .

“In a few years I see Caicedo winning a golden ball,” added coach Jhon, who sees in the now member of Deportivo Cali a soccer player who can help the growth of women’s soccer in Colombia.

For Restrepo and Echeverry, due to the athlete’s youth, there are moments in the game when she must work to become the player that many soccer fans expect.

According to these two coaches, the factors that Linda should emphasize the most are the aerial game and the decision making in the last quarter of the floor.

To confirm the ticket

This afternoon (2:00 pm), Colombia will face Chile for the second date of the final phase of the South American Championship in Uruguay (Montevideo), in which a tie will be enough to confirm their participation in the World Cup.

“I want to be the South American champion and go to the World Cup. We have to keep our feet on the ground, we haven’t won anything yet. We have to go out for the victory in the two games that we have left”, pointed out the attacker from Cali.

The national cast comes from beating Paraguay 2-0, while the Chileans were beaten 8-0 against Brazil. In the first phase, they defeated Peru (7-0), Chile (3-1), Ecuador (4-0) and Uruguay (1-0).

“The balance is positive. In five games we have five wins, a very considerable goal difference (+16). We are close to meeting the objective, but we have to keep working”, declared the technical assistant Michael Flórez, prior to the game against the Chileans.

The possible alignment of Colombia for this decisive commitment would be with Luisa Agudelo; Ana María Guzmán, Sintia Cabezas, Stefanía Perlaza, Mary José Álvarez; Juana Ortegon, Laura Garavito; Gabriela Rodríguez, Karla Torres, Yésica Muñoz and Linda Caicedo.

In the other game of the day, Paraguay and Chile will meet at 4:30 p.m.

Linda Caicedo has league titles in her four-year career with América and Cali.
