Paris (AFP) – The Barcelona-Real Madrid match, in the second leg of the European Champions League quarterfinals, may go down in history on Wednesday (16:45 GMT) as the match with the most public in a professional women’s football competition.

The scene of the clash will be the Camp Nou (capacity for 99,000 spectators) and everything has been arranged to meet the objective. The Catalan club has offered free tickets to its members and expects a full house.

“I never imagined playing at the Camp Nou. I feel very proud that Barça makes this possible,” the captain of the Barça team, Alexia Putellas, winner of the last Ballon d’Or, celebrated at a press conference.

Barça, the current European champion, is well on the way to qualifying for the semi-finals after winning 3-1 as a visitor in the first leg.

The clash is obviously one of great rivalry and Barça could achieve another success over the ‘merengue’ team, after the recent 4-0 victory of their men’s team in LaLiga at the Santiago Bernabéu.

This month, in a women’s league championship match, Barça already endorsed Real Madrid 5-0.

On Wednesday (7:00 p.m. GMT) the second leg of another of the quarterfinal qualifiers will also be played, with Paris Saint-Germain hosting Bayern Munich in the Parc des Princes.

The Parisians got a 2-1 victory in the first leg in Germany and they also have the situation on track.

An important public presence is also expected in the stands of his stadium, in his case around 25,000 people.

“After experiencing two years of drought in terms of the public, this is great,” Ulrich Ramé, general manager of the women’s PSG, enthused in statements to AFP.

Lyon in trouble

For Thursday will be the outcome of the other two quarterfinals.

Lyon, who hold the record for most titles in the competition with seven, will try to come back at home from the 2-1 loss suffered in the first leg against Juventus in Italy.

For their part, Wolfsburg and Arsenal will decide their pulse after drawing 1-1 in the first leg.

This season’s Women’s Champions League final will be played on May 21 in Turin.
