Marcelo Tinelli achieved a victory in Justice. The Civil Chamber gave him the reason this noon in his proposal to challenge the elections in the Professional Football League (LPF) and ordered that the entity that organizes the Argentine soccer championship be intervened by the Football Association (AFA).
According to the court ruling to which he agreed Infobaeroom B ordered the president of the AFA, Claudio chiqui Tapia, to call elections for the appointment of the new board of directors of the Professional Football League within 90 days. During that period, Tapia will be responsible for coordinating the normal functioning of the League.
The president of the AFA will have to make a decision on the future of the championships when he returns to the country – he is currently in London, after having been in the World Cup fixture draw last week. In confidential conversations with Tinelli himself and with Pablo Toviggino -Federal Council- he he anticipated his idea of definitively dissolving the Professional League and assuming the organization of all the championships, as was done historically in Argentina.
The AFA handed over the organization of first division soccer matches in mid-2017, when the Superliga was created, an autonomous civil association that promised to import European formats and guarantee better income for clubs. The project ended at the beginning of 2020, when the Professional League, currently chaired by Tinelli, was created.
The political scenario in the Professional League was modified on December 24, 2021 when Tinelli denounced a kind of institutional coup carried out by members of the Executive Committee. “In recent days we have witnessed – with surprise and disbelief – a movement initiated by some clubs, some of them maliciously induced from false and incorrect information, which claim to represent all the institutions that make up the Professional Football League”, He stated at that time in a letter that circulated through the entities that make up the first division of Argentine soccer after the request of a group of managers aligned against the television host, who demanded that he be removed from his position.
During the first days of January of this year, Tinelli called for elections for March 31: “During this last month, I have maintained continuous communication with the vast majority of my peers in the First Division, regarding how to face the common challenges that we face as a League. I understand that this concern is common to all leaders, without distinction of proper names. AND I also understand, after carefully reflecting on these circumstances, that we must undertake an in-depth process for the election of those directors who, starting in 2022, must take on the challenge of carrying out the search for the solutions that we all need.”.
Days before the elections, the television host obtained a precautionary measure that suspended a meeting in which Cristian Malaspina (president of Argentinos Juniors) was going to be elected as his successor. As stated by the former leader of San Lorenzo, and validated by Judge Camilo Almeida Pons, there were severe irregularities in the procedure that was intended to lead to the election of new authorities. The same criterion was endorsed this Wednesday by the Chamber.
