Muriel’s career in Europe
After leaving Deportivo Cali, bought by Udinese in 2010, Luis Muriel was loaned by the Italian team to Granada in Spain in search of consolidation in the football of the Old Continent. After that, he went on loan for one season to Lecce in Italy, a campaign in which he scored seven goals in 29 games played in Serie A. And with more maturity, Udinese allowed him to stay in his professional squad.
In 2014 he began his adventure at Sampdoria. In two and a half seasons in this team he celebrated 21 times for the Italian League in 79 games played. In 2015 he was also able to score in the Europa League on one occasion.
From there, for the 2017/18 campaign, the international with the Colombian National Team returned to Spain to join Sevilla. In a season and a half, Luis Fernando Muriel scored eight goals in 35 games played in the League. And he had the chance to make his Champions League debut in his first season, although he failed to score in eight outings. That yes, the other year, he returned to leave his mark in the Europa League by scoring three goals in four outings.
And after six months at Fiorentina in Italy, during which time he scored six goals in 16 league games, the opportunity came to be part of Atalanta.
Since his arrival in Bermejo, he knew how to consolidate sportingly until he was a fundamental piece of the squad, many times entering from the substitute bench. Not being the definitive starter, in the middle of the season it was thought that he could pack his bags to go in search of a new opportunity, but coach Gian Piero Gasperini managed to convince him to stay.
With Atalante he registers 48 goals in the Italian league in the three seasons he has been in, in addition to adding eight goals in international tournaments.
